Which Meter for Noise at Work?
The type of sound level meter or noise dosemeter that
you should use is defined by the noise at work regulations
and by the HSE
According to the Physical
Agents (Noise) Directive 2003/10/EC and the HSE's Controlling
Noise at Work guidelines, the equipment should meet
the following specification:
These are the minimum specifications that the equipment
should meet for most noise surveys. If you have particularly
high noise levels (much greater than 90 dBA) then you will
need a more advanced meter that can help assess the performance
of hearing protectors.
Note that the Noise Warning Signs are indicators,
not sound level meters, and are not intended for noise
survey use.
