CR261S Vehicle Noise Sound Level
Meter
The CR261S is a Class 1 Sound Level Meter designed for
the measurement of vehicle exhaust noise in line with the
international standard ISO 5130. It can be used as a simple
hand-held meter or, more usefully, fitted on a small tripod
by the exhaust and operated using the Remote Control.

In line with the ISO 5130 standard, the CR261S is a Class 1 or
Type 1 meter to IEC 61672, IEC 60804 and ANSI S1.4. The Class 1
meters are more accurate than Class 2 and the ISO standard demands
this level of accuracy. As a result of it being specifically designed
for the noise testing of motor vehicles, it is very quick and easy
to use, with only the functions needed for this type of application.
The meter's case, which is designed for acoustic performance, is
of a robust alloy, making it ideal for use in workshops, garages
and by the road side.
Vehicle Noise Measurements
When used as a simple hand-held meter, the CR261S measures the
Fast Sound Level, LAF. When used with the Remote Control,
which plugs into the bottom of the meter, it makes three consecutive
measurements, as required by the standards. The meter shows the
three Maximum Sound Levels, LAFmax, that were measured. The use
of the remote control allows the user to operate or monitor the
operation of the vehicle's throttle whilst still controlling the
start of measurements. It is possible for a single person to make
the measurements.

Independent Approval
The CR261S Sound Level Meter has received independent
PTB approval to DIN EN 61672. The PTB approval number is
PTB-1.72-4025043. Such approval is only granted to equipment
that meets the very strict international sound level meter
standards. This approval is assurance that the sound level
meter performs as claimed. |
