Environmental Noise Measurement

The instruments we recommend for environmental noise measurements are
Class
1 as they offer greater accuracy and better performance at low noise
levels. These meters have a removable microphone stem so that an optional
extension cable can be used. There are Class
2 versions available for most of these instruments at a lower
cost if your application does not demand Class
1.

This sound level meter is ideal for most
environmental noise surveys, including boundary monitoring
and BS4142 type assessments.
It is particularly good at making timed measurements.
For example, it can make repeating 5 minute measurements
of Leq and L90, also storing the level (LAeq) every second,
giving a graph of the noise level over time.

If you need to carry out a frequency
analysis of the noise levels then the P33 meter comes with
Real-Time Octave and 1/3 Octave Band Filters.
This meter has a very wide span, which means there is no
need to select the measurement range before starting work.
It also means that the meter will pick up the quiet background
level but be ready when a noisy car drives past.

The Noise Nuisance Recorder consists
of a Class 1 Sound Level Meter enclosed in a strong, lockable
carrying case. As well as recording the noise levels, this
unit records the actual audio, so you can listen to whatever
was causing the noise.
The audio recording is started either by the remote controller
or by automatic threshold trigger.
This unit is usually used for monitoring noise from neighbours:
dogs barking, music, machinery.
