Basic Sound Level Meters for Noise at WorkFor a basic noise at work survey in areas where the noise levels are not extreme (generally less than 90 dB), you can make the noise assessment using a Class 2 Integrating Sound Level Meter. For such surveys a meter that gives an immediate reading on the display is ideal. Download to a computer can be available as an option, but should not be an essential part of the process. It is also sometimes useful to have a low cost meter available for making quick checks as keeping an expensive Integrating meter in your toolbox may not be an option. However, it is very important that a full survey is made using a Class 2 Integrating Sound Level Meter and the low cost meter is only used for additional on-site checks. See our page on the Noise at Work Regulations for more details. If the noise levels are very high (regularly greater than 90dB) then please visit our High Noise Levels page.
